Today

What are you drinking today?

Today starts with the question that matters: what to brew. Pick at random from your cupboard or answer four quick questions about what sounds good. Below that, the teas you're dialing in, and then the numbers: sessions, your streak, and how your scores are trending.

How it works

  1. 01

    Not sure what to drink?

Tap Pick at random, or Help me choose and answer four questions: what sounds good (light and refreshing, rich and comforting, aromatic, or caffeine-free), a quick cup or a long gongfu session, hot or cold, and familiar or new.

  2. 02

    Brew it

The suggestion comes with its recipe and the reasons it was picked. One tap opens the timer with everything set.

  3. 03

    See the patterns

Scroll down for sessions today and this week, your streak, your average score, sessions per day, infusions and liters brewed, the styles you drink, your most-brewed teas, and whether you're a morning or evening tea drinker.

The details

Picks from your cupboard

Suggestions only include teas you still have leaf for, and they nudge you toward teas that are close to going stale.

Caffeine-free? Covered

Choose Caffeine-free and only teas that are naturally caffeine-free or decaffeinated are suggested. Mate and guayusa count as caffeinated, and you can mark any tea's caffeine yourself.

Any time range

Switch the charts between 7 days, 30 days, 90 days, and all time.

Plain rules, no AI

Every suggestion shows the reasons behind it, like 'Best within 15 days' or 'Your Everyday Perfect Brew, 9/10'.

Questions

What's a session, a steep, a recipe, and a cup?

A session is one time you brewed a tea, however many steeps. A steep (or infusion) is one pour of water over the leaf. A recipe is the settings: temperature, leaf, water, and steep times. A cup is what you drink; the charts count sessions, and volume adds up every steep.

Is it free?

Yes. Today, the charts, and the picker are free, like everything else in Steepdial.

Journal

Every brew, searchable.

Every brew you log lands in your journal with the recipe, score, notes, flavor words, and what Steepdial suggested next. Find what you thought of that oolong last spring, every cup you called drying, or every Yabukita you've brewed in your kyusu.

  1. Sep 20Dong Ding205°F · 6 g · 100 ml · 6 steeps“Roast calmer, fruit by steep 3. A little drying at the end.”7.5
  2. Jul 13Shizuoka Shincha165°F · 5 g · 150 ml · 1:00“Bitter, dry finish.”6

How it works

  1. 01

    Brew and rate

Every logged brew is added automatically, grouped by month.

  2. 02

    Search

Type any words. Steepdial searches tea names, vendors, harvests, styles, cultivars, origins, your notes and flavor words, suggestions, what you wanted to change, and the month.

  3. 03

    Filter

Narrow by origin, cultivar, season, method, vessel, water, score, or flavor word.

The details

Search that combines words

Every word must match, so 'oolong 2026' finds oolong brews from 2026.

Straight to the tea

Tap any entry to open that tea.

Unlimited history

Every brew is kept on every plan.

Questions

Can I delete a brew?

Yes, from the tea's Brews tab. The stash count updates to match.

Insights

Find out what you actually like.

Your taste profile is built from every cup you rate. It shows which styles you score highest, what your best cups taste like, your sweet-spot recipe for each style and method, and which water suits you, along with how many brews each pattern is based on.

Average score by style and method
  • Sencha · western8.4 · 14 brews
  • Shou · gongfu8 · 6 brews
  • Malty black · western7.4 · 9 brews
  • Roasted oolong · gongfu7 · 2 brews

Starting to take shape. Two brews isn't a pattern yet, so the roasted oolong line is marked as early.

Green: brews you scored 8+. Gray: the rest.

How it works

  1. 01

    Rate your brews

The overall score is enough to start. Taste ratings (sweetness, bitterness, and so on) make it sharper.

  2. 02

    Open Taste profile

It appears after three rated brews and updates every time you rate another.

  3. 03

    Use it

Buy more of what you love, try new teas in the family you rate highest, and start new teas from your sweet-spot recipe.

The details

Your best cups vs the rest

Taste ratings from brews you scored 8 or higher are compared with the rest, so you can see what your highest-rated brews have in common.

Sweet spots

The typical temperature, leaf ratio, and first-steep time of your best brews, for each style and method, since a gaiwan sencha and a mug sencha are different recipes.

Honest about sample size

Every pattern shows how many brews it's based on. Two brews is too early to say; it's starting to take shape after three, and steady after eight.

Worked out, not guessed

It's plain averages of your own ratings, worked out on your device. No AI.

Questions

How many brews does it need?

Three rated brews to start. It gets more useful with every cup.

Insights

Taste it blind.

Labels change how tea tastes. Pick two to six teas, Steepdial hides them behind letters in a random order, and you score each cup before you know what it is.

Three oolongs · Best Brew blind · revealed
  1. BDong Ding“Roasty, stone fruit”8.5
  2. CTieguanyin“Floral, buttery”8
  3. ADa Hong Pao“Mineral, a bit harsh”6.5

How it works

  1. 01

    Pick the teas

Two to six from your collection. Two harvests, two vendors, or three oolongs you can't choose between.

  2. 02

    Choose how to brew

Best Brew blind brews each tea its own preferred way, to find the one you enjoy most. Standardized brews every cup the same way, which is fairest for two harvests or vendors of the same style.

  3. 03

    Brew them side by side

Whoever brews opens the hidden key to see which tea is A, B, and C, with the recipe for each cup.

  4. 04

    Score each cup

Give every cup a score out of 10 and a note.

  5. 05

    Reveal

See the ranking with names, and keep the results with your teas.

The details

Random order

The letters are shuffled every time, so you can't guess from the order you picked them in.

Made for tasting together

One person brews using the key, everyone else tastes. Great with friends.

Kept for later

Past tastings stay in the list, so you can look back at how teas compared.

Questions

Can I do it on my own?

Yes. Have the key closed, pour each tea into a cup marked with its letter, shuffle the cups, and taste.

Not a backup

The full backup in Settings is what keeps everything safe, photos included. These files are for reading and sharing.

Questions

Is this the same as a backup?

No. A backup (Export all data in Settings) saves everything so you can restore it, photos included. The printout and spreadsheets are for reading and sharing.

Settings

    Open and start

No sign-up. Open Steepdial and add a tea, or explore with the sample teas.

  2. 02

    Install it if you like

Add Steepdial to your phone's home screen and it opens full screen, like an app, and works without a connection.

  3. 03

The details

What's stored

Your teas, brews, notes, Perfect Brews, vessels, photos, and settings. Only on your device. Photos are shrunk before they're saved, and can go in your backup file too.

What isn't

No name, email, phone number, or location. No ads, no analytics, and no tracking cookies. Like any website, the server that delivers the pages sees a basic request when you load them, but none of your tea data is ever part of it. The fonts are served with the site, not from a third party.

No AI

Every suggestion comes from brewing rules you can check, all written out in the tea guide. Nothing you write or photograph is sent anywhere to be analyzed.

Delete means delete

Delete everything from Settings and it's gone. There's no copy anywhere else.

Questions

What if I clear my browser or lose my phone?

Your data goes with it unless you've exported a backup. Export from Settings now and then. Syncing between devices is coming, and it won't ask for your email.

Can I use it on my phone and computer?

Yes. For now, move your data between them with export and import.
