Fix a brew in under a minute.

Too bitter, too drying, not enough flavor? Enter what you brewed and what you'd change. Steepdial tells you what to change next time and why, based on how that style of tea actually behaves: a gyokuro, a yancha, and a young sheng each get a different answer.

Why this adjustment

195°F is well above the 150–185°F that sencha usually wants, and that alone can explain it. Go straight to 175°F before changing anything else.

What your next cup tests

Water down to 175°F, everything else unchanged.

How it works

  1. 01

    Pick the tea

Choose the style from over forty, grouped by family: gyokuro, sencha, and matcha; high mountain oolong, yancha, and dancong; sheng, shou, Liu Bao, and Fu brick; herbal teas from chamomile to mate. Then say whether you brewed Western, gongfu, or whisked.

  2. 02

    Enter your brew

Temperature, leaf, water, and time. Type the numbers or use the + and − buttons. Time accepts 1:08, 68, or 1m 8s.

  3. 03

    Say what you'd change

Less bitter, less drying, more flavor, lighter, more lively, less vegetal, less roast-forward, less smoky, more aromatic, less tart, or not sure.

  4. 04

    Get the fix

Steepdial shows the new recipe with the changed numbers highlighted, why it chose that change, and what the next brew is testing.

The details

Learn, or fix it fast

Learning mode changes one main setting at a time (plus at most one small balancing change), so you find out what each one does. Fast fix corrects everything that's clearly off at once, for when you just want a good cup.

Two problems, in order

If you pick two problems, Steepdial fixes the more fundamental one first (bitterness before weakness, for example) and tells you what to try next if the second one remains.

Knows each style's range

A 195°F sencha gets a different answer than a 195°F Assam. Suggestions stay inside the typical range for that style and never go above boiling. Matcha changes powder or water temperature, not whisking time, and herbal teas brewed at a boil change time or leaf instead.

Fits your kettle

Choose the kettle you have and suggestions stick to temperatures it can make. If it can't make the exact temperature, choose the closest setting, letting it cool, or mixing boiling and room-temperature water.

Practical tips

Some problems come with a note, like using fresh filtered water when a cup tastes flat, or preheating your vessel when aroma is missing.

Questions

Do I need an account?

No. Fix a brew works right on the website with no sign-up. Inside the app, you can save the result to one of your teas so it becomes that tea's next recipe.

Does it use AI?

No. Suggestions come from fixed brewing rules, so the same brew and problem always get the same answer.

Can I use Celsius?

Yes. Switch between °F and °C at any time and every number converts.
