App overview

Brew each tea the way you like it. Steepdial remembers how.

Most of it is free for up to 20 teas: Fix a brew, the timer, Perfect Brews, the journal, your stash, and more. Tea Nerd adds extras for tea nerds, like blind tastings, water tests, and an Aging Shelf for pu-erh. There's no account, and your tea data stays on your device.

How it fits together

  1. 01

    Add a tea

Pick its style and Steepdial fills in a starting recipe for your teapot, and tells you why.

  2. 02

    Brew and rate

Run the timer, taste, and tap what you'd change: less bitter, less drying, more flavor.

  3. 03

    Get the next recipe

One clear change for next time, based on the whole history of that tea.

  4. 04

    Save your Perfect Brew

When it's right, keep it. It's there next week, next year, next harvest.

Words we use

  • StyleWhat kind of tea it is within its family: sencha, yancha, young sheng, rooibos. Origin, cultivar, and processing are separate details.
  • RecipeThe settings: temperature, leaf, water, a rinse if any, and the steep times.
  • Steep (infusion)One pour of water over the leaf. A rinse is poured away and never counted as one.
  • SessionOne time you brewed a tea, from the first steep to the last. A mug of tea is one session; so is a ten-steep gongfu sitting.
  • CupWhat you drink. Charts count sessions, and volume adds up the water of every steep.
  • Perfect BrewYour preferred recipe for a tea, saved with how you got there. Not the correct recipe; yours.
