In the Tea Nerd tabTea Nerd

A shelf for the teas you're aging.

Pu-erh, Liu Bao, Fu brick, and some white teas and oolongs can develop beautifully with appropriate storage. Log how each one is stored, taste it now and then, and Steepdial keeps the record and tells you when it's time to revisit.

How it works

  1. 01

Add a tea to the shelf

Mark it as a cake or loose leaf and enter the year it was pressed or harvested.

  2. 02

    Note how it's stored

Container, where it lives, sealed or breathable, and the temperature and humidity ranges if you measure them.

  3. 03

    Taste it now and then

Log a tasting with a score and what's changed, and set the next tasting date. When it comes around, the tea is marked Time to revisit.

The details

At a glance

Age in years, grams left, what the remaining leaf cost you, how it's stored, and your last tasting for every tea.

See it change

Every tasting stays with the tea, so you can read back how a young sheng softened over the years.

No magic number

There's no single right humidity. Stable, clean-smelling conditions away from light and odors matter most, and your tastings tell you how it's going.

Works with Stash

Grams count down as you brew, just like the rest of your teas.

Questions

Is it only for pu-erh?

No. Any tea you're keeping on purpose can go on the shelf, including Liu Bao, Fu brick, white tea cakes, and roasted oolongs.
